Located in North Durham County and only 20 minutes North of Downtown Durham, you can find the small town of Bahama, North Carolina. But before we dive into the community of Bahama, let's make sure we are pronouncing it like a local - which is a little different from its tropical named sister islands down south. Pronounced “Ba-HAY-Ma”, this town is rich in history that was built around its development of railroads and mills connecting Bahama with other towns of North Carolina and beyond during the United States growing years. The placement of the Lynchburg & Durham Railroad allowed the town, originally known as Balltown, to grow large enough for a post office, school building, local stores, and the Tilley Brothers’ Roller Mill bringing more jobs and support to the area (Bahama | Open Durham).
