10 Easy Steps To Planting A Garden

Choose the Right Location

• Sunlight: Most vegetables and flowers need 6–8 hours of direct sunlight a day. Observe your yard or balcony to find a sunny spot.
• Drainage: Avoid low spots where water collects after rain. Soil should be moist but not waterlogged.
• Convenience: Place your garden near a water source and where you’ll see it often—you’re more likely to care for it!

2. Decide What to Grow

• Climate & Season: Check your plant hardiness zone and your local planting calendar.
• Start Simple:
  • Veggies: Tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, radishes, green beans.
  • Herbs: Basil, parsley, mint, thyme.
  • Flowers: Marigolds, zinnias, sunflowers, pansies.
• Space: Choose plants that suit your available space. Some (like zucchini) need room to spread, while others (like lettuce) are compact.

3. Choose a Garden Type

• In-ground: Traditional gardening in soil—great for large spaces.
• Raised beds: Easier on your back and good for controlling soil quality.

4. Clear and Prep the Area
