Original Content by Carl Johnson Like a positive affirmation, starting the New Year off with an open mind, a clear vision of your goals, and a go-get-it attitude has a proven track record of helping your dreams come true. This is why I love looking into the Pantone Color of the Year once it is released! Because a house and its style is more than where you live - a home sets the mood for your lifestyle, your energy, feelings, and more! Since its start in 1999, The Pantone Color of the Year program “engages the design community and color enthusiasts in a conversation around color, highlighting the relationship between color and culture. Pantone selects a color each year that captures the global zeitgeist—the Color of the Year express a global mood and an attitude, reflecting collective desire in the form of a single, distinct hue” (PANTONE® USA | Pantone Color of the Year 2025). The 2025 Pantone Color of the Year is - Mocha Mousse 17-1230 TCX (see photo below)! What does Mocha Mousse mean and how can you use it in your home to spread its mellow warmth around? According to the team at Pantone, this perfect shade of tan and brown offers “a warming, brown hue imbued with richness. It nurtures us with its suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort” (PANTONE® USA | Pantone Color of the Year 2025). A key factor of Mocha Mousse is that it is versatile! You can use this hue of brown as a part of any modern minimalist blend throughout your home. Or Mocha Mousse can be used as a bold statement in a moody detailed design. Think neutral monochromatic color blends of minimalism vs a four wall and ceiling coating of Mocha Mousse in an elegant formal dining room - stunning! This perfect hue also allows itself to blend seamlessly into almost any color home style design. Pantone listed some fantastic color pallets to show off Mocha Mousse in popular home trends: Relaxed Elegance - “Revel in your own special moments. Imbued with a sensorial richness, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse inspires us to curate experiences that boost personal comfort and wellness. From sweet treats to nature walks, the indulgence of simple pleasures that we can also gift and share with others” (PANTONE® USA | Pantone Color of the Year 2025). Floral Pathways - “A cornucopia of suggestively scented floral tones, blended with a soft mocha and a shaded willow green, leads us down a cobblestone path” (PANTONE® USA | Pantone Color of the Year 2025). Subtle Contrast - “Sophisticated brown hues coalesce with nuanced contrasts of blue and gray for a classic and compatible statement” (PANTONE® USA | Pantone Color of the Year 2025). As the Pantone team gives a color of the year with a global perspective in mind, balancing lifestyle with color trends, Sherwin-Williams and their Colormix Forecast gives an insight into popular color palettes for the new year with trend forward design as this goal.
