I am excited to serve on the board of Durham Regional Association of REALTORS® (DRAR) as when I started Durham Magazine for The Shannons, I joined DRAR as an associate member. I enjoyed getting to know the Association and it’s members by attending monthly luncheons and events. Under the leadership of Shelia Willis, CEO, this organization continues to flourish as one of the top associations in the state. Shelia began her position in 1993 with DRAR and has served our Association for 31 years. Prior to joining DRAR she was a Corporate Relation Specialist. What attracted her to the position was the opportunity for change and new challenges. Some of her favorite things about serving as CEO are, planning programs to enhance members professional success and enjoy having many new friends. The Mission Statement of the Durham Regional Association of REALTORS® (DRAR) is: Provide members with education and resources that will enable them to enhance professional growth and prosperity, to promote and enforce ethical standards and to be a continuing source of information concerning issues impacting real estate; thereby encouraging and protecting private property rights. What I love about being elected by my peers to be a member of the Durham Regional Association of REALTORS® Board starting in Jan 2025 is that at its core, the Association promotes growth to both itself, their individual members, and the community of Durham. When one of these areas grows, the others grow with it! I am a firm believer in standing by what is right and ethical and proud to be able to take actions as a member to make sure those in the area are doing so as well. DRAR sets goals to help ensure we reach our mission year after year. Some of our committee goals are below: ADVOCACY GOAL: DRAR will be seen by its members, the public, media, elected and appointed officials as the leading advocate for private property rights and real property ownership. CONSUMER OUTREACH GOAL: DRAR is recognized for its value to the community based upon its high quality communication, community involvement, advocacy and community investment. MEMBER SERVICES GOAL: DRAR is recognized for providing superior membership value based upon its high quality customer service and valuable, relevant services to its members. DIVERSITY & INCLUSION GOAL: DRAR, representing approximately 1500 REALTORS® who reside in diverse communities across the Triangle, embodies our REALTOR® Code of Ethics, the governing document which protects the housing rights of all people, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity. We embrace equality and inclusivity, honoring individuals and respecting differing perspectives to reach common goals for the betterment of all. Racism and discrimination have no home here. (BOD Approval 10/21/20) The DRAR created numerous smaller committees to help make these goals happen such as:
I was honored to be asked to become a member of the Grievance committee and take this responsibility very seriously. As a member of this committee I work with other members to review any complaints against other Brokers to the Durham Regional Association of Realtors. If we as a group determine that the complaint is valid as it aligns to our Code of Ethics, the complaint is then escalated by the committee to the North Carolina Real Estate Commission to further investigate the complaint. Carl is honored to serve in this dynamic Association of highly respected and talented professionals. Want to learn more about Durham, click here for our Durham Community page.
