Right in between Burlington and Mebane you will find the small Town of Haw River in Alamance county. With a population of just over 2,500 Haw River strives to be a prosperous growing town and gives back to its community and people (Town Of Haw River) while honoring its historic past in the textile mill industry. The Town’s official website, Town Of Haw River, gives great resources to help make the process smooth and easy for those looking to open a new business in their area. From a location close to both main highways and interstates, great local restaurants and shopping, and just minutes to Graham Mebane Lake and Park, this picture perfect small town of Haw River has it all.
Enjoy the Outdoors
A good place to start when visiting the Town of Haw River is the local community park. Located on the east side of town this local park has “2 Baseball/Softball Fields (lighted), Volleyball Court (sand), Tennis Court (lighted), 1/3 mile Walking Track, 1/3 mile bicycle track, 2 Horseshoe Pits,3 Picnic Shelters, Gazebo, Playground, Bleachers and Concession Stand” (Haw River Park). This park is a great spot to stroll the town and enjoy the great outdoors of NC.
The Town of Haw River shares the grounds with Graham for the local golf course known as The Challenge Golf Club (The Challenge Golf Club – Graham, NC – Thrilling Golf). “Thrilling Golf at The Challenge Golf Club. Voted 24th Most Improved Golf Course in America in 2019 by Golf Advisor and has consistently been in the Top 100 Courses in North Carolina, The Challenge features some of the most beautiful holes you will find in the area and scenically winding along the Haw River. Sculpted from the rolling hills, The Challenge lives up to its name by offering even the seasoned golfer a great test of ability and shot-making while staying playable for golfers of all skill levels.” See below for more information about the course from their website:
"The Challenge is a mainly public course housing an 18-hole course designed by Shape Masters. The golf course was built in 1997 on the rolling farmland adjacent to the Haw River. This par 72 course measures 6,828 yards from the championship tees and offers five other sets of tees that make the course enjoyable for golfers of all ages and skill levels. The Club’s practice facilities consist of a warm up hitting area and an expansive putting green.
The Club has hosted several Mid-Amateur Qualifiers over the years. It is a Four-Star rated golf course by Golf Digest, the recipient of the 2nd Best New Course in North Carolina by NC Golf Magazine Panel, voted 24th Most Improved Golf Course in America in 2019 by Golf Advisor and Best New Public Course of the Piedmont by Carolinas Magazine."

Another great outdoors resource which is shared with the city of Graham is the Graham-Mebane Lake. This lake and all of its amenities are less than 2 miles from the Town of Haw River, or a 5 min drive! This 600+ arce municipal reservoir is a popular hot spot for fishing, boating, boarding and picnicking. “The facility features a marina office where sales of user permits, bait, fishing supplies, concessions, and paddle vessel rentals are performed. A seven-lane boat ramp offers ample space for loading and retrieving several boats at once. There are two docks for securing boats and a kayak launch with handrails and rollers for easy launching of kayaks and canoes. The bank fishing area features approximately 1000 feet of shoreline, two fishing piers, multiple fish attractors, picnic tables, and a shelter. The Lake offers several tournaments and family programs throughout the year; however, no swimming or wading is allowed” (GRPD Lake - City of Graham, NC).
