We are featuring the Downtown area of Carrboro North Carolina in this Neighborhood Series. An area rich in history and a funny story to its name! According to the Town of Carrboro's website, in 1913 the town made its final name change after Julian Shakespeare Carr, owner of the local textile mill, expanded the mill and agreed to provide electricity to the community in exchange for naming the town after himself! From then on this small mill town grew steadily along with the growth of UNC-Chapel Hill and the associated local business district. Known today as a diverse town that is welcoming of all, Downtown Carrboro offers a community of equality and acceptance along with a popular business district. Now let’s take a look into some of the communities that make up the area of Downtown Carrboro.
Fox Meadow
Fox Meadow is a neighborhood located at the northernmost part of Carrboro off of Rogers Road. Fox Meadow offers a variety of home styles and sizes with the average price range around $550,000. Home construction for this neighborhood started in the 1980s.
Meadow Run
All the way in north Carrboro, also located off of Rogers Road, is Meadow Run. This small single street neighborhood offers homes on large lots built in the 90s to early 2000s. These homes are larger in size and range from $500,000 to over a million.
Park Slopes
Listed at Carrboro's 'hottest community' in 2015, Park Slopes features newly constructed homes that are detached craftsman styles. This area has three-to-four-bedroom homes that are reasonably priced starting in the $400s with a community HOA.
Quarterpath Trace
The popular neighborhood of Quarterpath Trace is just a bit north in Downtown Carrboro. Originally constructed in the 1990s, you can find a variety of home sizes and price ranges so there are many options for anyone! They have a small neighborhood HOA. Quarterpath Trace is located near Bolin Creek and Horace Williams B watershed making it a part of the Urban Forest Stewardship Report where they monitor the benefits and impacts the community has on the urban natural resources. Water run off from Quarterpath Trace goes to the Jordan Lake reservoir where it get turned to drinking water for nearly 250,000 local citizens.
Bolin Forest
Also located in the Horace Williams B watershed and Bolin Creek path is Bolin Forest. Bolin Forest too is a part of the Urban Forest Stewardship Report and much of the community's open undeveloped green spaces are noted to have great natural soil, geology, and ecology making it a healthy region. Bolin Forest is a community with an involved HOA, hosting neighborhood events all year long, abundant wildlife, and beautiful wooded scenery. With homes constructed starting in the 1980’s, there are a variety of home prices and sizes to fit your needs.

You can find a variety of home prices from $400k and up, along with a variety of sizes in Cates Farm. These homes were built in the 1990s through the 2000s.
Pacifica Cohousing Community
Based off of the local Arcadia community, Pacific Cohousing was built to be a location close to Carrboro while still maintaining the benefits of cohousing. The design goal of Pacifica is privacy and community coming together with shared values of sustainability, community, and affordability. The first homeowners moved into Pacifica in 2006 making construction of the 46 homes in the neighborhood new.

You can also find a Common House with the largest residential photovoltaic solar array in the whole Triangle. Throughout the HOA, all landscaping is intentionally planned to be as natural as possible!
Overall Downtown Carrboro offers a great location and a variety of homes for any homeowner. You can find something small and simple or high end with a large yard all in Carrboro! From sustainable Pacific Cohousing to the walkable Cates Farm Carrboro has something for everyone and they have a business district and night life to support it where all are welcome!
