American Village
American Village is considered one of the most popular neighborhoods to live in in Durham! This is a mature community, with construction starting in the ‘60s, but has evolved as lifestyles have through other phases into the ‘90s. Today, American Village is where you can find beautiful landscapes and luscious greens! Located only ten minutes from downtown Durham, there is great access to public transportation, an extremely walkable community throughout, and has a wide mix of houses, townhomes, and condos for everyone’s needs. American Village is also only minutes to both Duke and UNC university campuses!
Lochn’ora
This community is the location of 170 homes. Lochn'ora's convenient location to Duke, RTP, and downtown Durham makes commutes quick and easy. Construction on this desirable location started in the late 1980s and continued through the early 2000s. Lochn’ora has many large detached homes and beautiful tree lined streets giving it a peaceful neighborhood feel. Lochn’ora has a low HOA fee but offers a lot of community involvement and interaction.
Carillon Forest
This neighborhood offers a range of large homes in west Durham, with average house square footage ranging from 2,900 to over 4,200. The size, styles, and prices of Carillon Forest homes are varied, resulting in many options for different family needs moving into the area. The Carillon Forest community was built in the 2010s offering new homes to the area. Perfect for outdoor lovers with its close proximity to Duke Forest, there are many outdoor activities such as hiking and fishing nearby letting you enjoy all North Carolina has to offer.
Colony Park

This is a National Historic District making it a unique place to live! The community offers a wide variety of events and activities throughout the year, such as a large centennial party in 2008!
Old West Durham
A quiet tree-lined street of neighbors and friends is what Old West Durham is known for. Home to the Ninth Street Business District, this is a historic community dating back to 1910 when it boomed with mill workers. Today you can find a variety of homes in both size and styles in Old West Durham and a community that takes pride in its rich history!
Duke Forest
Construction of Duke Forest started in the 1930sdukeforest.duke.edu/ through the 1980s. Today, this community has a variety of homes ranging from large detached homes to townhomes and condos. Due to Duke Forest's long construction era, you can find a wide range of house styles such as traditional, modern, mid-century modern, contemporary and colonial. Like much of West Durham you will find yourself on beautiful tree lined streets in Duke Forest, though some of the homes here actually back up to the original Duke Forest! The original Duke Forest boasts 7000 acres of land maintained and protected by the university which allows for many outdoor activities.
Tuscaloosa-Lakewood
This neighborhood has more than 500 households in a wide range of house prices and styles as its construction started in the 1940s. Tuscaloosa-Lakewood is a walkable community that is within walking distance to tons of restaurants and shops. A strong HOA helps to maintain the community history as well as keep it modern with year block parties and more! Known for being a super friendly community and its great location, Tuscaloosa-Lakewood is a popular area that has life-long residents as well as new families moving in!
