The adjoining town to Chapel Hill has built its own identity for itself and stands out apart from its neighboring town. Small in size, but big in spirit, the downtown is always well-populated. Carrboro offers quite a few dining options, including the always-packed Elmo’s diner. With the newly renovated Weaver Street Market, downtown Carrboro offers plenty of outdoor dining space to accommodate all varieties of people, as well as their pets. Every day, residents gather under its large trees to enjoy baked goods, coffee, and food from the Market’s hot bar. The diverse population and open-mind attitude of its residents are what make Carrboro so appealing to many.
Carrboro offers plenty of activities for artists and art enthusiasts through its Art Therapy Institute, Open Mic Nights at the Oasis provide the chance for residents to enjoy poetry readings as well as show off their own skills. For children, "Toddler Preschool Playtime" is a great opportunity for young kids to play and meet other children, as well as for the parents to connect with like-minded parents and families. For music enthusiasts, Cat’s Cradle always has music from local artists and out-of-town bands that can be enjoyed throughout the year. Carrboro is a close-knit community that often gets overlooked based on its location to Chapel Hill, but it has readily made a name for itself as its downtown has grown. Downtown Carrboro has several shops including Carr Mill Mall and a variety of restaurants. Food from multiple nationalities and price points, from food trucks to diners to fancier sit-down restaurants, are always available and ready to be enjoyed daily.
